Winter vs. My Face

Living in Wisconsin, it’s a struggle to maintain hydrated and dewy skin while you feel like your skin’s winter spirit animal has been mummified.

Here are a few products that have been saving my beauty life this winter!

Oh, and incase you’re wondering, I’m not being sponsored by anyone… these are products I genuinely use and love and the only person around is my boyfriend and he thinks primers are only used when painting a room so… I need to tell someone!

Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer

Foundation primers are an essential part of my makeup routine. It’s like double stick tape for your makeup, giving something for your foundation to hold on to while  locking down your skincare and fighting shine. For the most part, I am typically about more of a smoothing primer with a silicone feel to it (like the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer). I struggle with overly hydrating foundations wanting to slide off my face and more satin and matte formulas looking way too makeup-y. Enter Too Faced Hangover Primer. It adds moisture to the skin without feeling like your face is going to melt off… plus brightness that boasts a long-wearing freshness for your favorite foundation. You don’t need to nurse a hangover to enjoy this primer!

MAC Softening Lotion

One of my favorite products from MAC, Softening Lotion has saved my skin and my client’s skin more times than I can count. On myself, I love pat it on with a cotton ball to plump up and brighten my skin. Honestly, it’s like a big drink of water for your face and adds that extra boost on those crazy cold days where my moisturizer meekly cries “help!” I’ve used this on clients who come to see me with skin that is not well-cared for or overly dehydrated. In a pinch, this helps everything sit nicely on the skin. I also love it mixed with MAC Fix+ misted on the skin to finish a makeup look.

Clarins Multi-Active Moisturizers

So… the previous products are all about prepping your skin for battle with the elements which is why I was so pumped that the Clarins Multi-Active Day now comes with an SPF 20. Just cos it snowed doesn’t mean your skin is safe from the sun, kids! Also, this is the second winter I’ve used the Clarins Multi-Active Night and it would take something totally game changing to tear me away from it. While the other products are working the front lines, this is backstage kicking ass, hydrating and repairing your skin while you sleep.

Fresh Sugar Lip Balm

Ok… this is a major splurge for sure. $22 for a lip balm is ridiculous and I understand that…. but ever since I received this in my gratis when I worked for Sephora, I have been head over heels for it. It feels like soft butter on your lips and has a soft lemon smell that you don’t taste and doesn’t linger after you’ve applied it. Oh, and a tube goes a loooong way.  They come in all different shades too but the plain balm has always been my jam.

Eucerin Soothing Repair Lotion

Finally, a drug store brand, right? My work history has influenced my expensive taste. I feel like it’s a common thing to go to Sephora or Ulta and not bat an eye at say, a $22 lip balm… but then when you go to Walgreens you’re like, “$10 for lotion? Pump the brakes.” That’s how I feel every time I pick up a bottle of this… but it lasts for about 4 months and it hydrates my skin so much it makes my tattoos look super fresh and new!
