In combining my two greatest loves, makeup and writing, this marks my first blog post… ever! I know people have been blogging forever, but I’m so excited to write about makeup!
Usually when I tell someone I’m a makeup artist, the first comment is “Oh no, please don’t judge my makeup!” Listen, I’m not here to judge and half the time I’m running around on my days off without makeup to give my skin a break and because honestly I hate the chore of taking off eye makeup at the end of the day. Seriously… on days off while I’m getting ready my main thought is “Is it necessary to wear mascara today?” and most of the time the answer is no.
That being said, I do appreciate the way makeup can make me feel about myself. I love the process of getting ready for an event; I think of makeup as an accessory to my outfit (in fact, I’ve definitely started building an outfit based on a particular lip color I’m in the mood for). Oh, and a great pair of false lashes make me feel like a million bucks!
Makeup means something different to everyone. Working in this industry has taught me that everyone has had at least one awful experience having their makeup done. I’m a firm believer if you do a thorough consultation and communicate as the look progresses, there won’t be any negative surprises. A good makeup artist will also tell you if something isn’t quite working. I’ve had many times where a foundation just wasn’t sitting right or i’m not happy with the colors I chose once I see them in action. You can always start over; that’s the beauty of makeup!
